When selecting a sofa, we understand that there are so many options in terms or look, feel, comfort, style and budget. Here are Signature Sofa’s top 10 tips on how to select the sofa that is perfect for you:

  1. Try before you buy - We recommend sitting on multiple different sofas to find what works best for you. What one person finds comfortable another person may not like at all, so sit, relax and picture yourself sitting on the sofa lounging and movie watching – is it comfortable?
  2. Measure up – try to understand your overall space and how your sofa will work into that space. Ensure that it fits with adequate spacing around it. You can use builders tape to measure out where the sofa will sit or alternatively take us up on our home measuring service; this is where we visit your home to get an idea of your space.
  3. Invest in a quality sofa – We understand that you may want to spend a minimum amount of money on your new sofa, but keep in mind how many years you would like to keep your sofa. Quality can often beat budget.
  4. Focus on your fabric - Whether you go for a pattern, a bold colour or a subtle colour your choice can have a huge impact on the room, so make sure this will work with scheme and design style. Also take into consideration that the fabric will stand up to your lifestyle. If you have busy family home or pets you may want to consider a stain resistant fabric or one that is easy to spot clean or is machine washable.
  5. Shape – get the look you have in mind for your room, this could be traditional, modern, compact, large and so on.
  6. Legs - modern steel or a more ornate wood look, ensure that your sofa legs flatter the rest of your room.
  7. How will you use your sofa - determining the way you will use your sofa can help you select most of the features you want your sofa to have. It may be a family sofa with parents and children lounging on it every day or it may be a sofa that will be used in a formal setting, e.g. for occasional dinner parties.
  8. Protect your flooring – if your sofa is to sit on wooden flooring, consider purchasing feeting pads to protect your flooring.
  9. The small details – things like piping, stud work and deep buttoning are all great ways to add style to your sofa and help you achieve a more bespoke look.
